Since I came back to Korea, there has been one thing that I was really surprised. Most drivers do not care about pedestrians. Actually, I already found it as soon as I got to the United States. However, I never thought it was so serious that I would feel fear whenever I walk on roads.
In the United States, people do not care cars so much, especially, black people cross streets no matter any vehicles come or not. Therefore, I took care of pedestrians whenever I drove on the street adjacent to pedestrians’ roads. I also did not care of cars so much, but I never felt fear about any vehicles.
Here in Korea, as soon as I came to my hometown, a small truck threatened me. I was waiting for the light to be blue. When the light became blue, I looked left to check out that I was safe. There was a car coming, and I expected the car would stop, and some people were about to cross. To my surprise, the driver warned the horn and gave a gesture to get away with his hand. It was so rude that I got angry, and even my friend was surprised. I realized that I would be care of cars more than I expected.
Even today, I found a car threatening me. When I walk by Ace Game Station, a car suddenly appeared from a side street. I think it is natural for the car to stop. However, the car accelerated in order to stop me. The distance between the car and me was just a few inches. I heaved a sigh of relief just because of not taking an accident. It was anomalous, but could be natural in Korea.
I strongly missed Korea in the United States. Nevertheless, auto driver’s bad manner made me want to leave Korea for the United States as soon as possible. It also led me to realize that Korea is underdeveloped country not only in economy but also citizens’ consciousness. I hope Korean people to drive in a graceful manner.
